HALO Movie discussion
« on: October 20, 2006, 01:40:08 PM »
It's true. The Halo movie has been cancelled by Fox and Universal, citing ballooning costs and an unwillingness by Microsoft to budge on the original deal. Check the HBO mainpage for more. It's not over, but 2008 is unlikely as a release year now. Sorry guys.

I am just in shock...I know they won't just outright give up though, doesn't Peter Jackson have his own studio? let's just keep our fingers crossed. The good news is that

"this doesn't spell the end of the project; work continues at Weta Digital while new distribution partners are courted."

According to Variety

"While rumors had the studios concerned over a budget that was rising above the original projected $135 million pricetag, the filmmakers said the double defection came after U and Fox played hardball and unsuccessfully tried to get the filmmakers and Microsoft to reduce their profit participation."

Who could blame Microsoft and the film makers for wanting to make it good? They're not going to short change the movie... I think this is one of those cases where Hollywood said "it's our way, or the highway.."

you think, if anything else, Bungie could make a "Halo" movie with their next-gen software? Hell, the story telling style in "halo 2" was basically like a movie, I loved it.

well the good news is that weta is still there, and that is probably the best news, but lets hope they don't get uwe boll to direct to replace the current guy.

Unfortunately, they got Uwe Boll AND Joe Staten, voice of the Grunt, is doing the MC. And also, it'll be part Care Bears, part Halo.

Microsoft has confirmed that plans to produce a film based on hit Xbox title Halo are still going ahead, despite the decision of Universal and Fox to pull out of the project.

Microsoft has released an official statement via the Bungie website which reads: "We are disappointed that Universal and Fox wanted to significantly renegotiate the financial points of the deal. But the Halo franchise is hugely popular and our goal remains the same - to find a partner that shares our passion and will creatively collaborate with us to best represent the story and spirit of the Halo franchise.

"Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and the rest of the creative team are dedicated to ensuring the Halo movie becomes a reality," the statement continues.
"We are already in discussions with potential partners who recognise the value of the Halo brand and its appeal to consumers worldwide."

im so pissed about the halo movie

well don't be, I tell everbody this these days - don't worry, be happy :) pre-production is still going strong, Peter Jackson is still there, it's not the end days for the movie, it'll come out. The first big step will be finding a studio that can pony up the money and won't half-ass the deal like Fox and Universal, that's why they pulled out - money issues. Penny pinching bastards at those studios were afraid of mounting costs...so

CHIN UP folks! it's still on track, just don't expect to see it under Fox or Universal's label, it'll be in a much better studious' hands than them. Count on it!

Random Article. It's a button/link on Wikipedia that takes you to a random article, selected using random numbers out of the total articles on Wikipedia. So I had a 1/1,500,000 chance of hitting that one.
